Common Types of Incontinence
Urinary Incontinence (Urine Leakage)
- Urge Incontinence - is the sudden strong urge to pass urine.Often the urge comes with little warning and the person is unable to reach the toilet in time, resulting in leakage on the way. Urge incontinence is often caused by an overactive bladder. This becomes more common as people get older.
- Stress Incontinence - is the leakage of urine whan a person sneezes, coughs, laughs, stands, or lifts objects. Constipation, a chronic cough and being overweight can strain the pelvic floor muscles and lead to stress incontinence.
- Overflow incontinence - is the leakage of urine from an over-full bladder. On urination the bladder does not empty completely. People may experience a weak urine stream, strain to pass urine, feel the bladder is not empty after going to the toilet, after dribble, pass urine while sleeping and frequently have urinary tract infections.
